It seems like at some point during your career, someone mentions business intelligence. When asked if you know what it is and/or are familiar with it, you nod yes, because you’ve certainly heard of business intelligence, and might have an idea, whether it be right or wrong, what it is. You also nod yes when people start talking about BI dashboards and reports, because you also have somewhat of an idea of what those are. You also assume, someone higher up that you, is using these dashboards and reports, to make important decisions. And also, that these items will never be of use to you.
What if I told you, you are wrong. BI dashboards and reports can be used by everyone.
But who am I? My name is Summer and I’m the Product Marketing Manager for Wyn Enterprise. I am also the person above.
Now, let me share my aspirations with you – an in-depth journey into the realm of business intelligence, specifically Wyn Enterprise. As the product marketing manager for Wyn, my role involves understanding the ins and outs of our BI platform and effectively communicating its value to potential users. However, I’m realizing that to truly excel in my position, I need to embark on a journey to understand the world of business intelligence – to grasp its intricacies and harness its power to enhance decision-making.
As I’m mapping out in my mind how I foresee my journey going, I’m sure things will change as the business intelligence landscape can be intricate. For now, here's my plan to navigate this journey:
-
Foundational Learning: I’ll start by delving into the fundamental concepts of business intelligence. Understanding the core principles and terminology will provide a solid foundation for my journey. As I've been immersed in this industry for the past two years now, I do feel like I have a good grasp on principles and terminology, but some more research couldn’t hurt.
-
Resource Deep-Dive: The Wyn website is packed with a wealth of knowledge on our product. This includes: blogs, videos, documentation, and more. While initially learning about Wyn, I’ve gone through all of these resources, but this time, I’ll go through them with a different lens, the lens of a new user.
-
Platform Exploration: Being the product marketing manager for Wyn Enterprise, I will extensively explore the features and capabilities of our BI platform. I’ll first download our 15-day trial and explore it’s capabilities. I’ll then download our 30-day trial and add sample data to it. This part of the exploration will include getting hands-on with BI dashboards, report creation, and data visualization.
-
Practical Applications: Applying my newfound knowledge to real-world scenarios within our organization will be crucial. I plan to create BI reports tailored to our marketing needs, ensuring practical and meaningful applications.
Why is this journey important? In today's fast-paced business landscape, data is a goldmine, and the ability to extract valuable insights is a game-changer. Whether you're in marketing, sales, or any other department, the potential of BI can elevate your contributions and bring about positive change. Join me on this journey from the starting line, and together, let's unlock the full potential of BI, turning data into actionable intelligence and transforming the way we work.
